Chipmaker AMD has joined hands with Samsung to bring its RDNA2 graphics technology to the latter’s Exynos mobile chips.
Till now RDNA 2 graphics technology has been seen on AMD’s PC chips only. These PC-based chips are more powerful than mobile-based chips. The popular mobile-based chips are mostly seen from Samsung, Qualcomm, etc.
This combination type of new chips was announced during the Computex 2021 keynote on Monday.
Inyup Kang, president of Samsung Electronics gave a statement “As we prepare for disruptive changes in technology and discover new opportunities, our partnership with AMD will allow us to bring ground-breaking graphics products and solutions to market for tomorrow’s mobile applications,”.
The idea is to license AMD’s custom graphics-based intellectual property (IP) for its mobile devices that include smartphones and other products.
Samsung and AMD may be the first to bring the technology of Ray Tracing to mobile chips. This will contribute in rendering technique that improves lighting in games.
